The Clown

With an orange bill, pink legs, and yellow eyes the American Black Oystercatcher is a somewhat comical bird found in the Pacific Northwest.  They gather in large groups on rock outcroppings at the tideline to feed.  Randomly, something catches their attention and they all leap off the rocks and with a great deal of chittering and whistling fly in a large circle only to land back in the same place they left.  This is repeated regularly throughout the day.  

The dark tipped bill and darker eyes identify this bird as a juvenile.
