As the days get colder and darkness comes to the Arctic some Snowy Owls migrate south for the winter.  Most years they begin to show up in Alberta in November and leave again as the days lengthen in late March and early April.  They like the open prairies of eastern and central Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.  Snowy Owls are confident birds who, when not hunting, spend their time perched atop telephone poles or other high places

The owl in this picture was no exception.  Initial I sighted it sitting on a telephone pole next to a country road.  As I passed, it drifted over to the fence-post creating an opportunity for a special picture.   I find this picture nicely reflects the regal disdain exhibited by Snowy Owls as they sit and survey their domain.
