Strutting Her Stuff

Wilson's Phalaropes are interesting birds.  With most birds, the male is brightly colored and displays to attract a mate.  The one displaying in this picture is the female.  She is more brightly colored and the one that does the courting.  After the eggs are laid she leaves the male to go looking for another mate.  He then takes on the job of sitting on the nest and raising the chicks
